Adult Swim's "Uzumaki" Animated mini-series to be delayed till 2022

Junji Ito's "Uzumaki" manga will be receiving a 4 episode anime mini-series by Adult Swim and Production I.G. to be released in October 2022.

Junji Ito is one of the most acclaimed horror mangakas in Japan and around the world. And "Uzumaki" is one of his most famous and best-known works.

It was first scheduled to premiere on Adult Swim's Toonami in Japan in 2020 but was one of the many productions that were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fan's who were anticipating the mini-series definitely received a hard blow as they announced that the series would be delayed until next year.

The announcement came from Jason DeMarco, the co-creator and Executive Producer of Adult Swim. He is also the producer of the War of the Rohirrim anime movie that was recently announced.

Director Hiroshi Nagahama explained as they had to restructure their entire plan for making the show, which Nagahama says requires twice as many animators as their normal projects at Production I.G. Even as animation prevailed when live-action productions around the world stopped, Japanese studios are much more conservative and were slower in allowing work-from-home solutions than studios in the West.

In a new update, director Hiroshi Nagahama further explains that the four-episode miniseries is a larger-than-usual production, perhaps due to its black-and-white animation technique, which seeks to closely resemble Ito's characteristic inky black-and-white style.

Uzumaki is set to air on Adult Swim in October 2022.
